Crew-Create
If you’re a creative person, I’m sure you’ve either hosted or attended a paint night or a craft day. Whether you’re a pro or a novice, it’s fun to get together with friends and decompress over the shared passion of creating.
As adults, it’s often tough to coordinate schedules or prioritize down-time. I’ve had tentative plans to get together for paint nights get put off for months. Open-ended plans rarely work. “Let’s hang out sometime” sounds hopeful, but doesn’t mean much. That dawned on me recently during another one of those conversations, where a friend of mine and I wanted to “get together sometime to work on sewing projects.”
So I decided I had to set out and change that. I decided it was time to take action on all those “let’s hang out sometime and…” conversations. It was time to create a dedicated space and time where people could come out and create together. I wanted to help foster a community of creatives who could connect and network, expand and learn, and inspire and empower one another, over shared creative interests.
Our first session of the year focused on Vision Boards. A vision board, or a dream board, is essentially a collage of images and affirmations that help you visualize your dreams and goals, to inspire and motivate you along your path to achieve them. In terms of the Laws of Attraction, they can be a powerful manifestation tool. Energetically speaking, you’re creating a reflection of the life you want to live. Creatively speaking, making a vision board is a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends.
As I talk about in my post, “5 Tips for Creative Professionals”, creativity is a muscle. And we need to exercise that muscle in order to keep it active and help it grow. It doesn’t matter your medium…creating is creating. Which is why our sessions always focus on something different. You never know what ideas might spark by stepping outside of your comfort zone. If you’re a writer stuck in writer’s block, paint. If you’re a graphic designer stuck in a creative funk, make a collage.
Even if you don’t consider yourself a creative person, you never know what you might learn about yourself by stepping into a creative head space, which is why this project is open to everyone! If you live in Los Angeles and are reading this post, and would like to join in on our next get-together, click your way over to our Facebook Group for updates.
Want to create a Vision Board of your own? All you need are some magazines/printouts, scissors, glue, and some poster board, or notebook to begin visually manifesting your dreams!
